Trying her hand in writing, her teacher was her biggest discouragement as she told her that she had no future in writing as she wrote stories that were too sappy.

This was until she dissected her first frog in a biology class and hated it so much that she knew she had to find another career. Unlike many writers that knew very early on that all they wanted to do was write, when Laura was a child, all she wanted to do was become a marine biologist working on the Galapagos Islands.
